Şakir Kurtulmuş

 

Şakir Kurtulmuş was born in 1958 in Eskişehir, Turkey. He completed his primary and secondary education in his hometown and graduated from the Department of Eastern Languages at Istanbul University’s Faculty of Letters.

Since 1977, he has worked for various newspapers and magazines. For many years, he prepared the “Art & Literature” page for Yeni Devir newspaper. In 1980, he published a literary magazine titled Tin Yazıtları and took part in the founding of İnsan Publishing. During his high school years in Eskişehir, he and his friends produced a wall newspaper called Fecir.

His first article appeared in Yeni Devir newspaper in 1976, and his first poem was published in Mavera magazine in 1978. His debut poetry collection, Ah Güzel Bir Gün (Such a Beautiful Day), was published in 1985 by Akabe Publishing. His poems and articles have appeared in numerous literary magazines, including Yönelişler, Mavera, Aylık Dergi, Ay Vakti, Bir Nokta, Edebiyat Ortamı, Şiar, Hece, Muhit, and Yedi İklim.

He has also authored two biographical works, Hz. Hamza and Bilal-i Habeşi, both published by Beyan Publishing. Currently, he serves as the literature series editor for Çıra Publishing Group and conducts creative writing workshops for high school and university students at various institutions.
